Instructions

Today, you're going to practice writing counterclaims.

Follow the instructions in each question.

Use this picture to use a variety of sentence starters for counterclaims and rebuttals.

Do not submit until you have a paragraph with your counterclaim and at least three sentences of elaboration.

Your counterclaim should include a sentence starter (like you see below), a rebuttal, and a statement of your claim. Here is an example:

Claim: Students should not be graded for behavior.

Although some teachers would say that grading students on behavior is a good thing to do because it encourages learning among all students, it still does not make sense that behavior should play any role in the grades students get on their report cards. That's why students should not be graded for behavior.

  • Counterclaim
  • Rebuttal
  • Restatement of claim.
